Super League Basketball has announced the launch of its landmark tenth franchise, with top-tier professional men’s basketball returning to Liverpool for the 2026/27 season.

The new Liverpool Basketball franchise will play its home games at the M&S Bank Arena on Liverpool’s iconic waterfront, marking the return of professional basketball to the city for the first time in more than a decade.

The new club is owned by Kings Dock Sports Group Ltd, the sports holding company founded by media executive and sports investor Jason Dolan, with ambitions to establish Liverpool Basketball as a leading professional sports organisation both domestically and internationally.

“We are building for decades, not seasons,” said Dolan.

“That’s why Liverpool was the clear choice. Its global sporting reputation, world-class arena, vibrant city centre and passionate supporters have created a culture shaped by clubs that represent more than competition – they represent their communities, their supporters and their city.

“Our ambition is to build a professional club that Liverpool is proud to call its own. One that reflects the character of this city, inspires young people, attracts world-class talent and delivers an unforgettable experience to the Liverpool community every time the doors open at M&S Bank Arena.”

The arrival of Liverpool Basketball further strengthens the Super League Basketball competition, with the league now set to comprise ten clubs for the 2026/27 season.

Deputy Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Cllr Graham Morgan, welcomed the investment.

“This investment will bring a new professional sports organisation to the Liverpool City Region, creating jobs, strengthening our visitor economy and reinforcing our region’s standing as somewhere global investors choose to build,” he said.

“Just as importantly, the club’s commitment to working with local communities should open pathways for young people in this fast-growing sport. I look forward to seeing our newest professional team competing and creating opportunities for local people.”

The franchise will also be based at the M&S Bank Arena, with Liverpool Experience Campus Chief Executive Faye Dyer highlighting the opportunity to inspire a new generation of basketball fans.

“Welcoming a Super League Basketball franchise to M&S Bank Arena marks another exciting chapter in Liverpool’s rich sporting story and we’re proud to play a role in bringing it to life,” she said.

“We’re excited to welcome new audiences through our doors and give fans the opportunity to experience top-level basketball in the heart of the city.”

Over the coming weeks, Liverpool Basketball will unveil its club identity and branding, leadership appointments, coaching staff and inaugural playing roster.

The organisation will also launch a comprehensive community programme designed to increase participation in basketball and create pathways for young players across the Liverpool City Region.

Liverpool’s arrival adds another major sporting city to the Super League Basketball landscape as the competition continues to grow its profile across Great Britain.
