Manchester Basketball fell 90-95 to the Surrey 89ers in the Super League Basketball Championship.
Max Jones dropped 30 for Manchester in a phenomenal individual display, shooting 52% from the field and 50% from three. The American had 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals as he attempted to will the hosts to a win.
But it was Surrey, battling Manchester wire-to-wire, that snatched the victory late in the fourth quarter. They scored 11 straight points in the final 2:03 to surge to a comeback win. Isiah Small led the team with 23 points and helped the 89ers on their late run with four points in the clutch.
Zak Irvin’s triple put Manchester up 89-82 with 3:22 left in the game. That was the most significant lead of either team in the fourth quarter in a back-and-forth contest. There were 11 lead changes in the period as the teams jousted for the win.
Manchester showed heart to battle back from down nine in the third. They trailed entering the fourth quarter, but back-to-back triples from Jones and Kaiyem Cleary set the tone for a frantic final stanza. However, the 89ers fought to the foul line on four straight possessions to take the lead and close the game in the dying seconds.
The result means Manchester fall to 2-2 in the Super League Basketball Championship at this early stage of the season.
Manchester is on the road for ENBL action, taking on Brussels Basketball on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 7:30pm. Manchester then return home to the National Basketball Performance Centre on Friday, October 31, taking on the Sheffield Sharks in the Super League Basketball Championship at 7:30 pm.
