Manchester Basketball took a resounding 95-60 road victory against the Cardiff Met Archers in the Super League Basketball Women’s Championship.
Irene Oboavwoduo led Manchester with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists on the night, snatching 4 steals on the defensive end in a complete performance.
Frannie Hottinger had 20 points and 6 assists in support of her teammate, going an efficient 10-13 from the field.
Manchester dominated the paint for 40 minutes in this blowout win. They scored 54 points at the rim compared to Cardiff’s 22, and won the rebounding battle 38-28. Manchester scored on 73% of their looks inside the three-point arc.
The visitors set the tone from the jump, bursting out to a 31-19 lead after the first quarter. The opening score from Hottinger meant Manchester led from wire to wire. Manchester went on a 10-2 run near the end of the first to build their firstsignificant lead.
Manchester held Cardiff to just 9 points in the second quarter to take a commanding advantage into halftime. And the clamps stayed locked down in the third to put the game beyond doubt, as Cardiff scored just 10 points out of the half.
That gave Manchester a 75-38 lead with one quarter to play, as they cruised to the finish line with the result all but decided.
The win improved Manchester’s record to 7-8 in the SLB Women’s Championship.
They return to the National Basketball Performance Centre on Sunday, April 12, to take on the Sheffield Hatters at 6 pm.
