Game Report: Caledonia Gladiators 75-88 MCR

Manchester Basketball rounded off their 2025 with an 88-75 win on the road to the Caledonia Gladiators.

They received contributions up and down the roster, as all five of the Manchester starters scored in double figures, led by 19 points from Max Jones.

Matt Nicholson had a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, meanwhile Jordan Johnson had his second-straight game with double digit assists, dishing 10 off the bench.

But it was Manchester's defence that won the day. Caledonia were held to 33% shooting on the night as the visitors took firm control of the affair from the opening tip. It was a game they led wire-to-wire.

A hot start from Jones, where he scored 7 points in the first two minutes, meant Manchester took an early lead which they would never surrender. They held their opponents at arm’s length in the first, before making it a double digit lead through Zak Irvin in the second.

Kaiyem Cleary ended the half with a jam which put Manchester up 16. And while Caledonia had a response to start the fourth which cut it to four, Manchester held their opponents to two points in three minutes, locking down on defence to rebuild their advantage.

Nicholson hit the dagger, sinking free throws midway through the period to make Manchester’s lead double figures again, and secure the road win.

The win brings Manchester’s record to 8-5 in the Super League Basketball Championship.

Manchester return home on Friday, January 9, taking on the Sheffield Sharks at the National Basketball Performance Centre at 7.30pm.
