Game previews: MCR in Belgium

Manchester Basketball take on two Belgian powerhouses in Mons-Hainaut and Brussels this week, here's a preview of what they have in store.

Mons-Hainaut vs Manchester Basketball
Tuesday 26 August - 7pm (local time) at Mons Arena

Mons finished ninth in the BNXT league last season winning 20 of their 36 league fixtures but missing out in the first round of the playoffs to Mechelen 2-0 in a best of three series. Like Manchester, Mons will have a new head coach on the sidelines in the form of Frank De Meulemeester who has been the assistant coach since 2010.

The game will be Mons' second game in pre-season after suffering defeat against French NM1 side Orchies on Saturday. Tuesday's game will be played at Mons Arena, which boasts a capacity of 3,700 people and plays host to international U20s tournaments.

One to watch: Garrett Hien
Former teammate of our own Pjay Smith Jnr at Furman University, Garrett is a 6'9" forward from Charlotte.

Brussels vs Manchester Basketball
Wednesday 27 August - 7pm (local time) at Complexe Sportif de Neder-Over-Heembeek

Brussels finished fifth in the BNXT league but were undone in the playoffs by fourth placed Limburg in the first round. Having been drawn in the same ENBL pool, Manchester will face Brussels in European competition on the 28 October.

Recently had Godwin Tshimanga called up to the Belgium National team which is a good indicator of the level of Serge Crevecoeur's Brussels team. Play their home games in Complexe Sportif de Neder-Over-Heembeek.

One to watch: Jared Ambrose
Young French talent returned to the Brussels roster this season, one to keep an eye on.
