Manchester Basketball can confirm the signing of DJ Mitchell, after completing his Australian season with Melbourne Phoenix. DJ, who holds an Irish passport, played at Manchester in the franchise's first ever season and established himself as a fan favourite.
"We're thrilled to bring DJ back to Manchester," commented GM Dominique Allen. "His experience playing in the league last season will really help the group as we enter the playoffs."
"DJ is a competitor at both ends of the floor and super talented. We're excited to be able to bring him in."
Born in Australia, DJ grew up in the United States playing his college basketball for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and Santa Clara Broncos. After college, DJ headed to the Netherlands joining BAL of the BNXT League averaging 16pts, 8.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in his first pro season.
In June 2022, Mitchell moved to Australia and joined the Gold Coast Rollers of the NBL1 North. Helping the Rollers win the 2022 NBL1 North championship.
In 2022-23 the 6’8” forward joined the Brisbane Bullets before signing for Polish team Śląsk Wrocław reaching the championship series.
Commenting on his return DJ commented:
"Manny! I look forward to competing for you guys again! You gave me so much love and confidence! Life has a funny way of working itself out and I can’t wait to get back! To the Mandem, let’s rock!"
DJ looks set to land in the UK next week and make his home return against Bristol Flyers on Sunday 12 April - tickets for that game are available here.
