Game Report: Caledonia 99 Manchester 77

Manchester Basketball began their SLB Trophy campaign with defeat in Scotland as Caledonia Gladiators ran out 99-77 winners.

It was a first game in charge with the new coaching set-up of Callum Jones and Matt Pitkin, who will take encouragement from a competitive performance after only a limited number of practice sessions. Hafeez Abdul, Louis Weaver and Ali Ali all making their professional debut in the game, Isaih Moore and DJ Mitchell travelled but it was decided not to feature after just arriving 24 hours earlier. Junior Madut was also not available having not received his clearance in time.

Gladiators on the other hand have been together for their European adventures and chemistry showed as they led 25-15 after the first quarter.

With Marcus Delpeche finding form in the paint and Hafeez Abdul knocking down threes, Manchester rallied and closed the game but Gladiators took a 51-38 lead into the break.

Delpeche proved to be Manchester’s Player of the Game as he finished with a strong double double with 20 Points and 12 Rebounds in 35 minutes of gametime.

The teams split the last quarter scoring 22 a piece with Caledonia holding out 99-77 victors.

"We are going to keep working, keep progressing and moving forward," reflected Callum Jones in his post-game.

"Everybody contributed well. There are things we can clean up on our offensive side and on our defensive side".
